I know it's a cliche, but my home truly IS maintained for the comfort of my dogs. I bought my house specifically because the layout would be dog-friendly; it allows the dogs to have plenty of room to romp and play, on surfaces that are easy to clean up after, while still allowing me to have a part of the house for the "people". Nothing is worse than a house with a dog kennel, that looks/smells like a dog kennel!

With that in mind, in 2007 I purchased my first home in Hampton, Virginia. It's a 1950s era ranch-style house with a carport that has been converted into an extra room. In general, the right half is the "people part" and the left half is for the dogs.

Chad welcomes you into the kennel room! This slate was hand-painted by Chad's breeder, Chris Heartz.

This is the actual "kennel room". This is where the dogs sleep at night and while I'm out, and where they spend most of their time playing or lounging on the couch. It's also my office/computer room, so I spend a lot of time in here working on the computer, playing with the dogs, and grooming.

I discovered the ceiling of the dog room is a great place to display my show ribbons!

Babies come down to the kennel room at 8 wks old and can romp and play in these Iris puppy pens and take in the hustle and bustle of the house. We love these pens for young babies and also for older puppies who can't be loose without supervision. We also use them as 3x6 runs for our adults when we travel to make things easier for our pet sitter.

Young puppies are raised in the spare bedroom next to my own bedroom. I have a webcam which allows me to observe mom from my work or from the other room when she is close to whelping, and to keep a close eye on puppies as they grow. We love these cloth beds made by KomfortKrate which fit perfectly in our metal puppy pens.

Just around the corner from the kennel room is the dining room / kitchen area, which the dogs also have access to.

Fencing in the back yard is a work in progress. For now the dogs can run safely on the patio.
